Turn boring paper plates into exciting and fun animals with these simple instructions. All you need are some household items and some imagination.

While you may look at a plain paper plate as something strictly reserved for mealtime, there are a lot of other possibilities for these plates. In fact, you can entertain your kids for hours by making fun and easy paper plate crafts. Here are some easy crafts that you can make with your child today.

Twirly Snake

This is a fun craft that any kid will enjoy. When you are done, hang it up and watch it twirl in the breeze.

Materials:

Directions:Start by drawing a spiral on the paper plate from the middle all the way to the edge. Have your child draw or color in between your pencil lines. The very center will become the snake’s head and the outside will be the tail. After your child has colored the plate, cut along the spiral pencil marks starting from the outside and working your way to the center. When you pick the center of the plate up, the snake body will fall, creating a neat spiral. Punch a hole at the top of the head and thread the string through the hole to hang.

Ocean Fish

By using materials you probably already have at your house, your child can create a cute ocean fish.

Materials:

Directions: Start by cutting a wide triangle out of the edge of the plate. This will form the mouth for the fish. The part that you cut out will become the tail. Take the triangle that you cut out and glue it to the back end of the fish with the broad end pointing out. Now your child can create! Use the sequins or glitter glue to decorate the ocean fish with bright scales on the side and on the tail. Glue the wiggly eye near the mouth.

Spooky Spider

Make a creepy spider to coincide with Little Miss Muffet nursery rhyme or any time you are teaching kids about spiders. This craft works best with the small dessert sized paper plates.

Materials:

Directions: The first thing your child should do is to color the entire plate (front and back) black. A crayon may be easier because some paper plates are coated. When the paper plate is colored, cut each pipe cleaner in half. This will give you eight legs. Glue four legs on each side (right on the edge of the plate). Bend them to resemble spider legs. Add the eyes.
