An Easy Paper Craft for Kids

These fun cards are great gifts for kids to make for Mother's Day, Father's Day, or even Valentine's Day.

Like accordion folded paper, these simple cards open up to reveal a string of connected letters, such as XOX, MOM, DAD, or just a series of hearts.

For Each Card, You’ll Need:

Kisses and Hug Card

This “XOX” card gives a hug and kisses to the recipient, for Valentine’s Day or any day.

  1. Fold a sheet of paper in half widthwise.
  2. Draw a small half circle along the center of the fold.
  3. Draw a larger half circle around the first. This will be the “O.”
  4. Draw a large, balloon-letter “X” touching the “O.”
  5. Cut along the outside edges of the “X” and “O” without cutting the two letters apart.
  6. Cut away the small half circle.
  7. Cut out the triangle area between the “X” and “O” without cutting the two letters apart.
  8. Unfold the card to see the “XOX.”
  9. Decorate both sides of the card with crayons, markers, or colored pencils.

Mom Card

This card is perfect for Mother’s Day, her birthday, or an day you need to tell Mom “I love you.”

  1. Fold a sheet of paper in half widthwise.
  2. Draw a small half circle along the center of the fold.
  3. Draw a larger half circle around the first. This will be the “O.”
  4. Draw a large, balloon-letter “M” touching the “O.”
  5. Cut along the outside edges of the “M” and “O” without cutting the two letters apart.
  6. Cut away the small half circle.
  7. Unfold the card to see the “MOM.”
  8. Decorate both sides of the card with crayons, markers, or colored pencils.

Dad Card

This card works great for Father’s Day, his birthday, or an day you need to write a note to a special dad.

  1. Fold a sheet of paper in half widthwise.
  2. Draw half of a large, balloon-letter “A” along the center of the fold.
  3. Draw a large, balloon-letter “D” with the rounded edge touching the “A.”
  4. Cut along the outside edges of the “D” and “A” without cutting the two letters apart.
  5. Carefully cut away the small area inside the “D.”
  6. Unfold the card to see the “DAD.”
  7. Decorate both sides of the card with crayons, markers, or colored pencils.

Heart Card

Although it doesn’t have letters, this folded card has three joined hearts that you can add any name to, such a friend’s or grandparent’s, or a special Valentine.

  1. Fold a sheet of paper in half widthwise.
  2. Draw half of a heart along the center of the fold.
  3. Draw a whole heart with the one side touching the half heart.
  4. Cut along the outside edges of the hearts without cutting them apart.
  5. Unfold the card to see the three joined hearts.
  6. Decorate both sides of the card with crayons, markers, or colored pencils.
