Keep track of your books with these photograph bookplates you can easily make. It's a simple kid's craft that is practical too.

Everyone knows how important getting kids to read is to their development. And anything you can do to get them directly involved in the process is a definite plus. These delightful photo bookplates are an easy kid's craft that are as practical as they are cute. Not only are they fun to make, but they will help your child keep track of his books. Nothing is more frustrating than trying to figure out if the book a friend has is the one you lent to him. So take some interesting pictures of your child, get out the scissors and glue and get ready for some crafting fun.

Personalized Bookplates

What you need:

  • regular size white or you favorite color card stock
  • pencil
  • ruler
  • scrapbook or scraps of wrapping paper
  • markers
  • glue stick
  • scissors
  • stickers (optional)
  • printed photos small enough to fit on the bookplates

What you do:

  1. The first thing you want to do is to divide the card stock into six sections. You can make your sections 4 1/2 by 3 1/2 and get six bookplates out of one piece of card stock. Use your ruler and pencil to draw straight lines.
  2. Now decorate the cards with the scrapbook paper, wrapping paper and markers to create a pleasing background or fun scene. Glue everything in place after you have it how you want it. Add the photo somewhere in the picture. Get creative! Trim your photos and make some fun scenes. For example, you could glue a cutout car on your bookplate and put the the person you are making these for in the driver's seat. Add some colorful stickers if you like.
  3. Write "From the library of....." and the person's name. You could also just write the name somewhere on the card.
  4. Now make color copies of your photo plates and cut them out. Using a glue stick, place the personalized name plates into your book. You can make as many copies as you need or you can begin again and make totally different bookplates the second time around.
